Scop Talk: Book Cover.

Here’s something I’ve been working on this last week or so. I’ve been playing around with various comp photos and photos found on Pinterest to compile a tentative book cover mock-up for Falcon Heart. Don’t worry, I’ll be seeking the pic rights even though my sister is just going to use the mock-up for a rough model for her artwork. Then I’m hoping to get the artwork colored so it looks like a traditional fantasy book. But what I really wanted to ask you is what you think: 1) It’s been suggested that I try the falcon flying in, wings outspread, through the the center of the arch, and 2) That I have my sister shorten the sword handle because it distracts the viewer from the model’s face. What’s your opinion? Click twice on the pic to see a larger version. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for letting me know what you think, Emily. I was just about do decide to shorten it. I’ll have to think again. You might be right. I think it depends on whether the picture is supposed to be a statement about the girl, or the girl and the sword. And the sword is an integral part of Kyrin’s journey, inner and outer. Thanks for your insight! 🙂

Yes to both ideas. The falcon gliding in is a terrific idea. Maybe the sword could be sheathed and across her lap? The sword does take over the visual impact of the picture.

Thanks for taking time to help me out, Jane. I really appreciate it. Those are good ideas. Others have mentioned that about the sword, too. I hope your days are blessed, and you’re enjoying summer.

      Hi Aunt Kate,
Thanks so much for your input. I think it’s unanimous! Thanks for taking time to let me know. I hope your days are going well, and you’re staying cool enough down south. It’s hot enough here, but lovely summer weather. 🙂

It is coming along nicely. 🙂 Keep in mind where you are planning the title to appear as you design it. Shortening the sword handle might be a good idea. It is too even with her hairstyle.
